America’s drop in carbon emissions is greater than that of any other country in the survey. Greens have often praised Europe and Australia for their foresight in adopting forward-thinking carbon-trading schemes, while chastising America for its reluctance to do the same. Yet the numbers are out, and America has actually performed better than its carbon-trading peers. From an empirical standpoint, fracking has a much better track record at reducing emissions than the current green dream.

Biden gives emotional speech to families of slain soldiers
Vice President Joe Biden may not be the person you often turn to for tearjerker video, but we were struck by how incredibly honest and raw his remarks were yesterday to a gathering of Gold Star Military Families — those families of soldiers slain in America’s wars. Biden admitted, with an occasional tremor in his voice, that the deaths of his wife and daughter in 1978 made him understand how a person could “consciously decide to commit suicide,” and urged the families assembled to take care of one another. source

122 Quebec protesters arrested in raucous night before proposed strike-breaking legislation
A bid to restore order in restive Quebec was met with streets clogged with thousands of protesters, a multitude of flying projectiles, several smashed windows, and blasts of pepper spray leading to 122 arrests.
The unrest on Wednesday night followed the Quebec government’s announcement it would suspend the current academic session for striking students in an effort to calm things down.

President Obama Becomes the First American President to Back Same-Sex Marriage
“I’ve just concluded, for me, personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama said in an interview with ABC News.
Obama, who had previously backed strong protections for gay and lesbian couples, said his position had evolved partly after talking to his two daughters Malia and Sasha who had some friends who had same-sex parents.
“It wouldn’t dawn on them that somehow their friends’ parents would be treated differently. It doesn’t make sense to them and frankly, that’s the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective,” Obama said in the interview.
How the War on Drugs Destroyed My Family
I don’t recall a time when the drug war did not affect my life. The punishments my father, brother and sister experienced—arrest, incarceration and HIV/AIDS—for misusing a controlled substance caused a lifetime of grief for my family. As a mother and a health professional, I am against the criminalization of drug use imposed by the war on drugs. I will not push away a person who uses drugs. I do not agree with those who say drugs menace children and the majority of the people in the drug culture are criminals. I devote my life to helping people find their way to health. Like any mother I am willing to give advice, and I’m willing to say “time out.” But I am not willing to call someone who has a dependency problem a criminal because they have contact with illegal drugs.
